Jaysella’s Sunday Selections from Newmarket

Oliver Brown Pretty Polly Stakes (Listed) (Fillies) 1.45
Sacred Ground
I wouldn’t mind scoring in the opener on Sunday, to make up for not getting Sky Majesty in on Saturday, so It’s Sacred Ground for me in the Pretty Polly. With some overnight rain in the forecast, conditions should be more like she faced in the Montrose here back in November, where she couldn’t stay with the talented Pintara, but otherwise acquitted herself well enough, so I can see her taking on Brian Meehan’s Esna, and it’s gotta be between these two. I do get it that Esna’s Group One form looks really strong, fourth in the Prix Marcel Boussac on the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend, but this Starman filly doesn’t obviously have this trip in her pedigree, right? So, for that reason, I’ll be taking my win chance with Sacred Ground, with Kevin Philippart De Foy’s Maldives sure to come on for her run at Yarmouth as an each way pick, if that’s your thing.

Betfred Dahlia Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) 2.20
Survie (nb)
I think I’ll take my chance with George Boughey’s Survie for this Dahlia Stakes, given that this is her optimum trip and any overnight rain can only help. That said, she ran well enough on a quicker surface at Riyadh in the Neom Turf Cup back in February, and I thought Billy Loughnane had her too far back over a sharp mile in the Snowdrop at Kempton last time out, but at least she’s not gonna be ring rusty. For me, Owen Burrows’ Falakeyah lost her way a bit after looking summat out of the ordinary last year, so Kevin Philippart De Foy’s Cathedral, a length ahead of Survie in the Snowdrop must rate the danger. Gotta be between these Survie and Cathedral, so I’m tempted by a forecast for the Dahlia, but one of these two is gonna win!

Betfred Handicap (Heritage Handicap) 2.55
Dramatic Star
William Haggas always does well in these top class handicaps, so I’m finding Dramatic Star an easy pick. I guess the one I’d be looking out for is Andrew Balding’s Subsequent, who off the back of a win in the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster should make anyone’s shortlist, so with Oisin Murphy up top has plenty of plusses on paper. Beyond that, Charlie Johnston’s Align The Stars has to be ready to fire after scoring in the 2 mile Queen’s Prize Handicap at Kempton, although his overall strike rate don’t look the best, but these are my three. Dramatic Star to score with an easier passage than at Newcastle latest, with Subsequent to follow home for you forecasters.

Betfred 1000 Guineas Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) 3.35
True Love (nap)
Loved her as a Juvenile, and gonna love her even more when she wins the 1000 Guineas. Tricky though, as obviously Precise is the stable first string with Ryan Moore aboard, and if you look back at the Moyglare, when Precise looked to be crying out for the mile, you can see why she was sent off such a hot favourite in the Fillies’ Mile here last October. Of course, that was when Christophe Soumillon was standing in for Ryan Moore due to his injury, so with Wayne Lordan on True Love having been on Precise in the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood, he at least knows what he’s got to beat. True Love won the Priory Belle at Leopardstown on her first run this campaign, and I thought she looked to have trained on well and was in superb condition. You will all know what we thought of Karl Burke’s Venetian Sun in the Office last year, so she’s gotta be in the frame, while French raider My Highness is a quality filly who could be the surprise package. True Love to stay true to my wishes, and give me a little bit of Classic Glory!!

Tattersalls £40,000 EBF Fillies’ Novice Stakes 4.10
Call Me Tomorrow
The costly Crownbreaker is gonna be getting close scrutiny in the Paddock Ring, but I don’t care what I see, cos Call Me Tomorrow is winning this. There’s a few here that cost a pretty penny too, including Efsixteen and Lazurite, so plenty of dough on show, but I saw enough on Call Me Tomorrow’s debut under rules to give her the nod for this. Rain about, but Call Me Tomorrow’s action suggests to me she’ll act on ground with cut, so that’s my selection for this Fillies’ Novice Stakes.

Tattersalls Online £40,000 EBF Novice Stakes 4.45
Napa
The sprint bred Napa can be winning this Novice Stakes, but I do think it will be a close run thing with Clive Cox’s Jaan Ki Tukri. Of course, both have the benefit of a first run at Newbury last month, where Jaan Ki Tukri was 2 lengths in front of Napa, but I can see that being an easy reversal here at Newmarket. Definitely bred for speed being by Naval Crown, I’ll be taking Napa to get upsides of Jaan Ki Tukri this time with stablemate Noble Raider also in the money.
