Jaysella’s Saturday Selections from Haydock Park

Suite Francaise
Right then, lets get things off to a good start with Charlie Johnston’s course and distance winner Suite Francaise. She won the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ race here under Joe Fanning last month, making all in pretty dominant fashion, and I’m reckoning the she can do it again, getting plenty of weight from the rest of the field. Suite Francaise is a progressive looking sort going the right way, and although Hamad Al Jehani’s Make Me King is higher on ratings, connections could be sending him to Germany on Sunday, so last year’s runner up, Prague could prove to be the main danger for Dylan Cunha. Yep, I’m sticking with Joe Fanning to serve up more of the front running tactics for a repeat win, and make it three from three at Haydock Park.

Publish
I think that John & Thady Gosden have got the answer to this Listed race with Publish. This Kingman colt got noticed on debut when just a half-length second to a Godolphin Palace Pier colt out of Charlie Appleby’s Moulton Paddocks yard, but made no mistake returned to Sandown Park and eased in grade when showing a bit of tenacity to regain his lead and lose the maiden tag. Into a Black Type now, but William Buick is booked and the outside draw can get an advantageous stand side run. George Boughey’s Bow Echo was impressive at Newbury first time out, so with the brilliant Billy Loughnane up top has to be considered, while Ed Walker’s Midnight Tango would be my each way angle. Publish to announce his credentials at this level, and put some Black Type in the book!

Gran Descans
To me, a bit of a puzzler here, but the Frankel colt Gran Descans looks to be in with every chance. No match for the reopposing Circus Of Rome from their clash on the all weather I’ll give you that, but there’s a huge 9lb pull in the weights back on turf, and it’s this pair that I think are going to be fighting this out. Stamina could be an issue for Gran Descans on breeding, but the rain stopped on Friday morning here at Haydock, so that should help him see out the trip. Charlie Johnston’s Pole Star won over course and distance in July, and looks a cracking each way selection if the Handicapper hasn’t reeled him in yet, but it’s Gran Descans for me.

Caballo De Mar (nap)
By George! I think I’ve got you a nicely priced winner here in Caballo De Mar. Well, by George Scott to be more precise. You might remember I gave him for the Copper Horse at Ascot’s Royal do, where he finished a creditable second, after being narrowly denied by James Owens’ East India Dock in the Chester Cup, but there’s no doubting his stamina and he also won here over 2 miles between those two races. Now he returns from a short break since that Ascot run, and that’s just what I want to see, so I’m thinking that he’ll outstay Iain Jardine’s hat-trick seeking Paddy The Squire. There’s been a bit of money down for William Haggas’s The Reverend this week, but I reckon he’d prefer a bit more cut, so I can’t get away from Caballo De Mar. Good Luck!

Lazzat (nb)
If you’d tuned into the Podcast this week, you’ll know my rundown on this race, and it’s Lazzat that’s the one to beat. Now, there’s all sorts of interesting angles to this Group One, and plenty I didn’t have time to get round to discussing on the Podcast, and one of those is the record of three year olds, who lag behind the older horses in the trends analysis, but of course are more closely matched on the weight for age allowance given this Group One’s late position in the Flat racing calendar. So, I do think that Harry Eustace’s Time For Sandals cannot be underestimated, but from that tricky draw in Stall 2, must have her work cut out. Yep, this 6 furlong trip at Haydock Park definitely favours the high draws, so it don’t look that Time For Sandals has Lady Luck on her side. Lazzat’s stablemate, Kind Of Blue comes into his own at this time of year, and was second last year, but James Doyle prefers Lazzat, so that’s good enough for me. It’s a big field with the maximum seventeen going to post, so others to note in my book are Richard Hughes’ No Half Measures and Mick Appleby’s Big Mojo, my each way angle, and both come from the better side of the draw. Beauvatier under Christophe Soumillon is another fascinating each way pick, to complete a long list, but it’s Jerome Reynier’s Lazzat that’s winning this!

Luna A Inbhir Nis
Moon Over Inverness, as The Mandarin told me for my selection at York last month, but, whatever, my Celtic ain’t too good but that don’t matter a jot if you’re winning! So, I know Katie Scott’s filly was third in that York race, but she won over course and distance here in July, and I fancy her to do it again from an excellent draw wide out in Stall 9, the place to be for this 5 furlong dash. Last year’s second, Jer Batt has to be shortlisted from a lower mark, while Hong Kong returner Atomic Force is an interesting outsider, for those of you who like that sort of thing. Luna A Inbhir Nis has a winning habit, and I’ll say she’ll be proving me right again with plenty in her favour. YabbaDabba Doo is she does!!
