Jaysella’s Royal Ascot Racecard for Saturday 21st June

Chesham Stakes (Listed) 2.30
Moments Of Joy
It’s just got to be pretty easy to make a case for Moments Of Joy, the way that the Ballydoyle youngsters have been going this week. I mean look, she’s the only one from that stable in this Listed race, and I reckon that’s as much yard confidence over her chances as that they don’t has another they could put in. Obviously, the inside draw isn’t ideal, but Ryan Moore will look to position this Justify filly closer to the pace from Charlie Appleby’s Frankel colt, Treanmor. Moments Of Joy to give me a moment of joy when Ryan Moore brings her home! COME ON!!

Hardwicke Stakes (Group 2) 3.05
Rebel’s Romance
The globetrotting Rebel’s Romance has got more air miles in his saddle pack than any of us here in the Office, and he’s probably not done winning yet. With seven Group One wins in the book, Rebel’s Romance has lined connections pockets very well indeed, and I would love to be an owner for one like that! There’s been a bit of speculation that he’s not getting any younger – isn’t that true for all of us! – but come on, this is a Group 2, on ground he’s just going to eat up, so William Buick just need to keep tabs on Joseph O’Brien’s Al Riffa, who we really rate but somehow doesn’t get the headline wins he should. Clive Cox’s Ghostwriter has been bought up for a few quid, so makes my list, while William Haggas’s Al Aasy is an Office favourite, but Rebel’s Romance edges it, for me.

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes (Group 1) 3.40
Inisherin (nap)
In my book, just one of the very, very best sprinters around, and I hope I’m not speaking out of turn here to anyone, but maybe doesn’t get as much credit as he deserves coming out of a northern yard. To qualify that, Kevin Ryan is unarguably in the top tier of trainers operating just now, but maybe the yard doesn’t get the recognition it should? Anyway, back to this race, and it’s a cracker – you’ve got French raider Lazzat, who didn’t even know how to lose in his first six starts, the interesting Ballydoyle Australian recruit Storm Boy, and Japan’s Satono Reve, who tried, but failed, to chase down the world’s top sprinter, Ka Ying Rising at Sha Tin in April. What a truly international race, but I can’t get away from Inisherin, who has course and distance form here, and is winning this!

Jersey Stakes (Group 3) 4.20
Comanche Brave
Yet another one that is going back to Ireland, with Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien looking to top off a brilliant week. Having said that, the markets have been saying something else, giving the edge to Owen Burrows’ Remmooz, who is two from two at dear old Donny, but Comanche Brave was last seen in the Irish 2,000 Guineas, and in my book, he didn’t see out the trip, so back to 7 furlongs and into a Group 3 looks an easier dish to swallow. Andrew Balding’s Marvelman finishes my list of three, but Comanche Brave has a fantastic chance in this grade, so gets my pick.

Wokingham Stakes (Heritage Handicap) 5.00
More Thunder (nb)
Something’s clicked this term, and this Night Of Thunder colt can make it three from three for me! Seeing as he spent all of last year at 9-10 furlongs, dropping back to the sprint division is not what normally happens, but HEY HO! its been just the ticket! Gotta nice draw too, where all the pace has been coming from this week on the stand side, and off this mark I think he’s going to be hard to pin back. Owen Burrows’ Jarraaf and Richard Hannon’s Aramram can go close, but it’s More Thunder to roar home for me!

Golden Gates Stakes 5.35
Quai De Bethune
I’m taking a chance on Quai De Bethune in this wide open Handicap, cos I think that Oisin Murphy learnt a lot about how to get the best out of him at Newbury last month. I mean, given an extra half furlong, quarter furlong even, Oisin would have had Quai De Bethune home and hosed, so with this quick ground just what he wants, that where my moneys going. Roger Varian’s Sallaal and the Gosdens’ Ernst Blofeld, who was a neck behind Quai De Bethune at Newbury are my three, but you know what I’m on!

Queen Alexandra Stakes 6.10
Dallas Star
A bit of a tricky one for the last race at Royal Ascot 2025, but I’ll chance my arm, and my cash with Adrian Murray’s Dallas Star. I do get it that some of the racing papers question the pedigree for this sort of trip, but I’ve been looking at the run in His Majesty’s Plate at Down Royal just three weeks back, and I saw enough to think he’s in with a squeak here, and David Egan is back on board to keep him on track. Brian Ellison’s Tashkan and Gordon Elliott’s Samui appeal, if Samui has recovered from the Copper Horse on Tuesday, but my gut tells me Dallas Star.
