Goodwood
Irish Stallion Farms EBF Nursery Handicap 2.57
Wise And Wonderful
Yeah, I think I’m gonna take a chance on Andrew Balding’s Wise And Wonderful for this Nursery. This good to soft ground is a bit of an unknown, and she does need to bounce back from a bit of a poor run in the 2 Year Old Fillies Series Final here last time out, but prior to that she’d been progressive enough so the gamble is on. Having Oisin Murphy in charge ain’t no bad thing huh? so getting 4lbs from Zarak Crown has just tipped the scales for me. Wise And Wonderful to get upsides of Zarak Crown, with Cloud Chorus also likely to be in the mix.
Virgin Bet Daily Extra Places Handicap 3.32
Deep Havana
Nothing if not consistent, Hamad Al Jehani’s Deep Havana gets the nod from me for this Handicap. I’ll put a line through his last run at Ayr in the Silver Cup, where the heavy ground clearly weren’t his thing, but there ain’t no more rain coming over the South Downs before this card is over, so back on a better surface Deep Havana gets a chance to return to winning ways. I spose that Jennie Candlish’s Collecting Coin and Chris Dwyer’s recent course winner Percy’s Star would make my list in a pretty wide open race, but Deep Havana it is for this girl.

Virgin Bet EBF Novice Stakes 4.07
Royal Acclamation (nb)
The improving Royal Acclamation looks easy to back here with super Billy Loughnane along for the ride, but probably not much bang for your buck! Competition is gonna come from Ralph Beckett’s Iron Curtain, who looked professional enough on his debut under rules at Salisbury, dropped in by Hector Crouch but making decent late progress to finish second. More to come from Iron Curtain methinks, but Royal Acclamation could be just a cut above this field, and certainly won’t be minding any cut in the ground after a decent enough second on heavy going at Haydock park last time out. Second here two runs back on soft, this should go to Royal Acclamation with Iron Curtain making a race of it.
Inkerman London Handicap 4.42
Naval Light
Karl Burke’s Naval Light has had a good strike rate this season, can act on ground with cut and has James Doyle in the hot seat. I mean, what could go wrong? but this Havana Grey gelding’s only run here resulted in a midfield finish, though to be fair just over 3 lengths behind Andrew Balding’s Ghost Mode in a blanket finish. I spose that Roger Varian’s Wechaad would be the assumed danger, along with Saeed bin Suroor’s Sword Maker, and these three head a pretty open market. I’ll take my chance with Naval Light, who has conditions to suit and can progress on a second run at Goodwood under James Doyle.
Virgin A Good Bet Fillies’ Handicap 5.17
Prosperity
A good chance to see the exciting filly Prosperity, who is three from three after bringing up the hat-trick at Newmarket last month. She did it nicely too, getting into a good stride at the 2 furlong pole and easing to the front to win going away. Races in the same grade here, and could be easily ahead of her mark despite the 5lb rise, so lots of plusses in my notebook, with the step up in trip sure to bring about even more improvement, but there is more cut in this ground, though that will be my only negative point in the overall analysis. James Fanshawe’s Room Fourteen, Jack Channon’s Withtearsinmyeyes and Ed Walker’s Spirit Of Athene all have claims, but it’s Prosperity they all gotta beat.

Irish Stallion Farms EBF Garnet Stakes (Listed) (Fillies & Mares) 3.05
Princess Child (nap)
Oh yes, I’ll be happy to take on the hot favourite Faiyum in this Garnet Stakes with Joseph O’Brien’s Princess Child. I telling yuzz all that this Listed contest could be perfectly set up for Princess Child, with Colin Keane sure to be sending Faiyum out to the front, giving Princess Child a nice lead in when the race proper starts. It’s possible that this mile is just a bit on the sharp side for Faiyum now too, though she has led passing the 7 furlong marker in her last three runs, so maybe connections think that this mile trip is the answer. But, I’m of the opinion that this can play right into the hands of Joseph O’Brien’s Princess Child, who looked to be getting right into her stride when second in the Concorde Stakes last week over 7 furlongs, so she’ll be my pick. Will McCreery’s New Bay filly Rebel Wave is on a four-timer, and Donnacha O’Brien’s Glyfada will be a big threat on this ground, but Princess Child to run down Faiyum in the final furlong is my take on this.
Irish Stallion Farms EBF Bluebell Stakes (Listed) (Fillies & Mares) 3.40
Caught U Sleeping
There’s been plenty of support for Joseph O’Brien’s Beset for this Bluebell Stakes this week, but I’m taking a big chance on Noel Meade’s Caught U Sleeping. To be sure Caught U Sleeping will be a big price for this Listed contest, but you will not find a better each way bet this weekend than Noel Meade’s Cotai Glory filly, who will relish this soft ground. Just the six days since she ran well to finish third in the Navigation Stakes at Killarney under Adam Caffrey, but connections must think she’s in the right form to send out again so quickly, and have booked Colin Keane for this, so that does send out the signal to me. Gavin Cromwell’s In My Teens completes my list under Wayne Lordan, but Caught U Sleeping has to go close, so is my big each way gamble.
