The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections for 7th July 2024

The Mandarin’s Sunday Selections from Deauville
Haras d’Etreham Prix Jean Prat (Group 1) (Colts & Fillies) 3.07
Kikkuli (nb)
Last seen chasing home the tough Haatem in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot, Kikkuli deserves a shot at this Group One. Harry Charlton’s Kingman colt is joined on the trip over by Charlie Appleby’s Romantic Style, who was last seen a fine fourth in the French 1,000 Guineas, and Charlie Hills’s Iberian, while Will McCreery sends over Irish raider Vespertilio in a cracking renewal. Home hopes lie with Beauvatier, who was smart at two, and the improving Sajir, but Kikkuli is at his ideal trip so gets the vote, with Romantic Style to keep him honest in behind
Prix Amandine (Listed) (Fillies) 3.40
Les Pavots
Francis-Henri Graffard can take this Listed contest with Les Pavots, who is eased in grade here. Last seen fourth in the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly behind the smart Sparkling Plenty, who went on to win the Prix de Diane at the top table, these look far calmer waters for this No Nay Never filly. There’s a whole squad of raiders from across the Channel, but the fast finishing Schikeria may give the selection most to think about. Les Pavots to be too classy for this field, and regain the winning thread

Prix de Ris-Orangis (Group 3) 4.15
Tribalist (nap)
Andre Fabre’s Farhh colt landed the Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud back in May, and can make it three from three this season here. That said, it’s a significant drop in trip, so the likes of British raiders Shartash and Electric Storm have to come into the reckoning. Shartash will find this a tad easier than the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he finished midfield in that Group 1 assignment, and has Wathnan Racing’s retained jockey James Doyle back in the hot seat. James Tate’s Electric Storm is one going the right way, and has Ryan Moore booked for the trip, but they all have to get upsides of Tribalist, who is sure to go hard from the front
Prix Goldikova – Fonds European de l’Elevage (Listed) (Fillies & Mares) 5.02
Rose Prick
Ed Walker’s Rose Prick was unlucky not to have taken the Fillies’ Handicap at Royal Ascot, just being reeled in by Bellarchi in the final half-furlong, but can make amends here. This No Nay Never filly has placed form in this grade, and with Mickael Barzalona in the saddle must have a big chance. There’s some depth to this field, with Prix de l’Opera sixth, Excellent Truth going to post, but Rose Prick gets the nudge in a good race for the grade
Prix Roland de Chambure (Listed) 5.36
Assertively
A chance is taken on Karl Burke’s Assertively, as the Yorkshire trainer continues a fine season with his sprinters. He’s been tasting success on both sides of the Channel and over in Ireland this year, hitting the heights with Fallen Angel in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. Over here Arabie went in last month at Chantilly, so Assertively is taken to improve from his Epsom run and score for the in-form trainer. Every chance
